What happens when great businesses do great things?

The Better Business Bureau serving Mainland B.C. is pleased to announce the finalists of the 3rd annual Torch Awards, which celebrates the achievements of businesses accomplishing great things in our community.

"These companies were selected by a panel of experts for being model examples in the marketplace," said Lynda Pasacreta, BBB President and CEO. "Each company clearly demonstrates superior character and goes the extra mile in its relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, industry peers and in the communities they do business in.”

The Torch Award is a symbol of a company's commitment to honesty and integrity toward customers, employees, shareholders and their community, and is the highest achievement the BBB awards to the business community.

Marketplace Excellence is presented to a business in recognition of their superior commitment to exceptional standards that benefit their consumers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and surrounding communities.

The Marketplace Excellence 2010 finalists are:

  • BCAA
  • Papa Plumbing

The Green Award, in partnership with the BC Ethics in Action Society, honours a business for its programs or initiatives which promoted forward-thinking, sustainable business practice.

The Green Award 2010 finalists are:

  • Lilith Fair
  • Kiwano Marketing
  • Whistler Blackcomb

The winners will be selected by an independent panel of business ethics experts and announced at the Torch Awards luncheon on October 26, 2010, at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver.

Also part of the Awards program will be the Advancing Marketplace Trust Award, which is presented to a business in recognition of an action, program, or sustainment activities that significantly and positively contribute to advancing trust in the marketplace.

A Consumer Leadership Award will also be presented to an individual who has significantly advanced marketplace trust through consumer advocacy, protection or education, through a specific action or lifetime achievement.

Keynote speaker for the Torch Awards is Bob Rennie, of Rennie Marketing Systems. And CTV’s Mike Killeen will host the Torch Awards to over 100 business executives this fall.

The Torch Awards is an event open to the public, and media is welcome to attend the event. To learn more, or to purchase tickets, please visit www.mbc.bbb.org/torch.
