Better Business Bureau is partnering with celebrity money group the Smart Cookies and other fraud prevention partners to deliver a special multimedia presentation about consumer protection called Smart Shoppers during March’s Fraud Prevention Month.
“Consumers need to be savvy not only with their money, but also with their identity management,” says Smart Cookie co-founder Katie Dunsworth. “Whether it is online, while shopping or investing in the future, you have to be careful about how your information is handled because it could be costly if it gets into the wrong hands. Smart Shoppers will help consumers to get savvy about what to avoid and give you tools to share to help others.”
Whether it's coming from social networks, online shopping, or investing -- fraud is a serious problem. Smart Shoppers, happening on March 27, 2010 at Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby is presented by the Better Business Bureau and BC Securities Commission, promises to be a fun and interactive way for consumers to learn and feel empowered to help others to help prevent and stop fraud.
“We are delighted to be coming out to the mall and enlisting the talents of the Smart Cookies to help us deliver our message,” said Lynda Pasacreta, BBB President and CEO. “If you thought money management was fun, then wait until you hear what the Cookies have to say about protecting yourself from fraud.”
In build up to Smart Shoppers, BBB will be releasing special consumer tips highlighting some of the most prevalent concerns facing Canadians today. Look forward to releases which will cover such areas like:
