iPad Scams Spreading on Facebook, Twitter

Posted Wednesday, March 03, 2010

iPad scams are spreading on twitter and facebook, according to TG Daily

There's a page on Facebook with the heading, “iPad Researcher Wanted – want to beta test Apple's latest product?” It looks like a normal facebook fanpage, encouraging users to become fans and suggest to other friends. By doing so, the page claims that you increasing your chances of becoming a beta tester.

But once you apply to be a beta tester is when the trouble starts. Users are directed to a pop-up window quiz asking for a cell phone number and date of birth. If the user enters the info and submits, the hackers sign them up for a premium cell phone service that charges $10 per week until the victims unsubscribe.

This page has since been disabled; however, there are still similar pages on Facebook and on twitter as well.
