“I know why families were created, with all their imperfections. They humanize you. They are made to make you forget yourself occasionally, so that the beautiful balance of life is not destroyed”
Writer, Anais Nin
I am the proud grandmother of three little girls―two of them moved to Calgary last year, much to me and my husband’s regret.
In the midst of an extremely busy time here at BBB, I decided to take a small break and fly to Calgary to visit my daughter and son-in-law and their two little ones, Lily and Esme.
Prior to the day of my flight to Calgary,I was feeling overwhelmed, a little beat up (you can’t make everyone happy all the time) and consumed with thoughts of work all hours of the day. I was experiencing physical pain in my back and my head, and suffering from allergies―ageneral malaise.
So for the price of accreditation with theBBB for one year, off I went to visit family. I was greeted at the airport by a grateful daughter (who works 60 hours a week, along with excelling at motherhood) who could not stop hugging me (I felt so needed).
We arrived at their house to be welcomed with screams of delight by the little ones who could not wait for me to pick them up (I felt so loved).
My son-in-law arrived home from work delighted by a scene of the care and love from extended family to his little family (I felt the strong ties that binds families together).
All the worries and doubts about my abilities disappeared for five days. My headaches, backaches, and general malaise were replaced with a feeling of well-being and peacefulness. Don’t get me wrong―there was a lot of work helping take care of and enjoying our little granddaughters.
I’ve returned home and have been back at work for a few days now, but still carry those peaceful feelings. And while some of those little aches and pains are starting to sneak in again, I just think about family to bring back the balance in my life.
