Why do I Choose Bright Colours?

Posted Friday, August 12, 2011
by Lynda Pasacreta

I am very thoughtful about what I wear everyday whether I am heading to work or seizing the day on a weekend. I really like wearing bright pinks and purples, oranges and limes. I am quick to go to navy blues on days where power and authority needs to be the focus. The colour black, does not exist in my wardrobe.

Today I am wearing a sun dress filled with all the colours of the rainbow. The day is sunny and warm. Early in the day, I started to notice a reaction from people passing by and coming in contact with me. Strangers were coming up with big smiles on their faces and telling me how lovely I looked, commenting on the colours, even noticing my toenails matching the outfit!.

The most valuable piece I got out of this today is the immediate connection with people – the breaking down of barriers, of removing isolation and a momentary embrace of the good things in life! One elderly lady’s comment to me today was “she felt brighter today after meeting me”. Guess how I felt?

At the Better Business Bureau, every day we talk to business owners that are struggling on a daily basis. They are either dealing with a difficult customer, or employee. Or they are feeling the impact of the economic times. Many of the discussions these days for some business owners are challenges with selling themselves and attracting good customers. We also spend a lot of time talking to consumers who have made wrong choices and either lost a lot of money or invested a lot of time with poor results.

All of us here at the BBB have same attitude. We are here to break down barriers, to remove the feelings of isolation and help both consumers and businesses see the good things in life that overcome some momentary challenges. Our whole BBB Team embraces colour, joy and passion for doing the right thing and enjoying day.

Leaders, show your spirit! Put on a smile, have a warm, open and friendly appearance and engage your staff, your customers and your community. People will feel brighter just by being around you.
