This year, a student from Sands secondary school, Linda Liu, was awarded the Student Ethics Award scholarship (valued at $2,500).
Giving hours of her time Linda graciously steps up by volunteering with children to seniors and in areas from drama to medicine to government to community support. With her community involvements such as the Youth Arts Council of Surrey (YACOS) and Youth Ending Poverty (YEP) Linda has demonstrated responsibility in her values and actions.
“Character and ethics are not born in a vacuum; they are developed through interactions with others,” says Linda. Linda has a very outgoing and interacting personality. She has been the communications director since 2007, keeping the council organized and well functioning. Linda has also worked in the Model United Nations at SFU.
Linda says that she is a “passionate character builder” by setting a good personal example. She believes that “the key to integrity is the congruence between thoughts, words, and actions.” She demonstrates great leadership and integrity by openly admitting to mistakes and failures so they can be rectified.
Linda Lui received the award at a special ceremony at the Better Business Bureau Golf Tournament on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Beach Grove Golf Club. Funds for the Student Ethics Award are collected at the annual golf tournament each year.
