Student Ethics Award 2012 - We are now accepting applications
As this year marks the 100 year anniversary of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) internationally, with the first BBB founded in Minnesota in 1912, our local Better Business Bureau serving Mainland BC (established in 1938), in honour of this centennial year, has modified our award criteria to include the option of a video submission. Students now have the opportunity to respond to our topic of "Everyday Ethics" in a written essay (500 words) or a video (between 1 - 3 min), with the possibility of their submitted essays and videos becoming a part of our Centennial celebratory activities throughout the year! We invite you to join us in celebrating the past 100 years, thinking back whilst looking forward.

Recent History of the Student Ethics Award
Student Ethics Award 2010 Colin Siu from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School was the recipient of the Student Ethics Award scholarship.
Colin is a young student with great dedication, who leads with integrity, and shows academic excellence.
Colin is dedicated to ethics and is a dynamic individual who balances community involvement and high level academics.
He puts in hundreds of hours of his own personal time to take the lead in a wide range of activities that have positive local and even global impacts.
In his essay, Colin showed how he is a passionate character builder. He stated that “you cannot force ethics onto others.” Colin instead acts as a “catalyst to encourage others to help find principles which they can live with.”
Colin plans to attend UBC in their Science One program.
Colin Siu received the award at BBB's Annual General Meeting in May 2010.
Student Ethics Award 2009
In 2009, a student from Sands Secondary School, Linda Liu, was awarded the Student Ethics Award scholarship.
Giving hours of her time Linda graciously stepped up by volunteering with children to seniors and in areas from drama to medicine to government to community support. With her community involvements such as the Youth Arts Council of Surrey (YACOS) and Youth Ending Poverty (YEP) Linda has demonstrated responsibility in her values and actions.
“Character and ethics are not born in a vacuum; they are developed through interactions with others,” said Linda. Linda has a very outgoing and interacting personality. She has been the communications director since 2007, keeping the council organized and well functioning. Linda has also worked in the Model United Nations at SFU.
Linda said that she is a “passionate character builder” by setting a good personal example. She believed that “the key to integrity is the congruence between thoughts, words, and actions.” She demonstrated great leadership and integrity by openly admitted to mistakes and failures so they can be learned from and rectified.
Linda Lui received the award at a special ceremony at the Better Business Bureau Golf Tournament back on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Beach Grove Golf Club. Funds for the Student Ethics Award are collected at the annual golf tournament each year.
